Recently, the Journal of Medical Ethics published the paper of two Australian philosophers entitled “After-birth abortion: why should the baby live?” The idea behind the paper was a simple, academic exercise in logic. The results were stunning, and provide a glimpse into a possible future where the sanctity of every human life is all but gone.
Giubilini and Minerva suggest, in their own words:
By showing that (1) both fetuses and newborns do not have the same moral status as actual persons, (2) the fact that both are potential persons is morally irrelevant and (3) adoption is not always in the best interest of actual people, the authors argue that what we call ‘after-birth abortion’ (killing a newborn) should be permissible in all the cases where abortion is, including cases where the newborn is not disabled.
Once you remove the fundamental, God-ordained value of a human life from the equation, you start down a slippery slope with no way to slow or stop your descent. Take away the biblical truth that all men are created in the image of God and you are left with carnal wisdom that would justify the killing of innocent children after they had already taken their first breath.
It is vitally important as followers of Christ and Americans concerned about the future of our children and family that we remain vigilant to the plot to remove the foundation of faith that was laid through the sacrifice of patriots past.
